Saturday: 7 Iraqis Killed, 8 Wounded

Light violence left at least seven Iraqis dead and another eight wounded as the two leading contender to be the next prime minister met today.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki at last spoke with rival Ayad Allawi for their first post-election meeting. They may have agreed for a need to form a national partnership between the two governments; however, a cautious remark from State of law official Ali al-Dabbagh could signal that no major breakthrough occurred.

A joint U.S.-Iraqi air strike left two gunmen dead and three injured in Hilla. Seven were arrested.

In what may be a second joint operation, this one in Karbala province, two more gunmen were killed. Local officials said the dead were civilians and complained they did not authorize that operation.

In Mosul, gunmen killed a woman in her home. Two guards were wounded after gunmen lobbed at grenade at the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) offices.

An unidentified body was found in Nimrod.

A boy was wounded in Balad when a bomb exploded near a middle school.

A policeman’s wife and daughter were wounded when gunmen blew up his home in Yathrib.

In Shurqat, gunmen killed the leader of the local Awakening Council. An Islamic State of Iraq (ISI) "interior minister" was arrested.

Three suspects were arrested in connection with the assassination attempt of a cleric in Suwayra last week.

Oil flow to Turkey resumed today after suspected sabotage stopped it on June 6.

Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) attacks continue in Turkey where at least one soldiers has been killed and over a dozen were wounded in the last few days.
