Figures from yesterday’s bombings in Karbala climbed overnight adding to today’s toll. Overall, at least 10 Iraqis were killed and 30 more were wounded across the country. Meanwhile, the Turkish prime minister is visiting Baghdad. Also, Malaysian police have arrested MP Mohammad al-Dayni on terrorism charges.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is in Baghdad to sign economic agreements. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki took this opportunity to reiterate Iraq’s demand that Turkey stop cross-border attacks against the Kurdistan Workers Party. Although the rebel group was recently seeking a permanent truce, Turkey has stepped up its campaign against them. Tensions between Iraq and Syria will also be discussed.
Mohammad al-Dayni was arrested by Malaysian police. He has been accused of involvement in terrorism, particularly a parliment building bombing; however, he claims that such accusations are harassment on the part of his political enemies.
Forty Iraqis seeking asylum in the United Kingdom will be sent back to southern Iraq despite fears that they will face violence or death.

A senior al-Qaeda leader accused of involvement in a 2007 bombing in Tal Afar among other attacks in the area was arrested while undergoing a surgical procedure at a Mosul hospital. Security personnel moved him to a hospital in Tal Afar.
