At least 14 Iraqis were killed and 45 more were wounded in today’s violence. The attacks included one in Anbar province, where assaults are once again becoming frequent. Not only are some Iraqis there turning their backs on the Coalition, a new operation in Ninewa could be forcing gunmen to flee to other provinces.
In Amiriya, nine people were killed and 31 more were wounded at sunset when a bomb was detonated at a marketplace.
In Baghdad, a bomb killed one civilian and wounded six people, including two policemen, at a checkpoint in Adhamiya. One Iraqi soldier was killed and four other people were wounded by a blast in Ghadeer.
Two people were killed and two more were wounded during a robbery in Basra. The owner of a money-exchange office was one of the dead. A bomb near a liquor store left no casualties. Across the province, 22 suspects were detained.
Two civilians were wounded in Bab Sinjar when a bomb targeting a police patrol blasted them instead.
A man was killed in Ramadi as he was allegedly planting a bomb that went off prematurely.
No casualties were reported after a bomb exploded in Tal Afar. Although the police director insisted that terrorist groups are unable to function in the city, he also requested three times the number of police for the area.
Awakening Council (Sahwa) members staged a march in Hawija demanding their salaries. They have not been paid in three months.
A pair of Katyusha rockets was found in Fallujah. A blast in the Saqlawiya suburb left no casualties.
Three suspects were arrested in Kirkuk.
