Numerous small attacks across central and northern Iraq left at least 18 Iraqis were killed and 30 more were wounded. A U.S. helicopter played a role in one of the attacks. The D.O.D. reported the death of a U.S. soldier in a vehicle accident on Saturday.
One gunman was killed when security forces backed by a U.S. helicopter attempted to stop a truck carrying weapons in Tal Abta. The men in the truck fired upon the forces. The helicopter crew then returned fire and shot a rocket at the truck. A second gunman, believed to be Yemeni, was captured while a third man escaped. During the search for the third man, Iraqi police clashed with gunmen. Two policemen and two gunmen were killed.
In Mosul, a bomb killed two policemen and wounded seven others as they were defusing it. A second bomb killed a woman and wounded her daughter. Last night, a bomb targeting an police official’s car wounded two bodyguards. Gunmen killed an Iraqi soldier.
A bomb killed three policemen and wounded three civilians, possibly in front of a Baquba movie theater. Two people were killed and two more were wounded in a blast south of the city. Gunmen wounded a man and a woman northeast of the city. Nine suspects were detained in Baquba. Also, an Iraqi soldier was killed and two others were wounded in a vehicle rollover.
A bomb killed an antiquities director and wounded his son as they were driving in Buhriz.
Gunmen in Jurf al-Sakhar stormed a policeman’s home. They ordered his family out before killing him. Last night, gunmen killed one policeman and wounded two others at a checkpoint.
In Baghdad, a bomb wounded three people, including a policeman, in Karrada. A bomb in Yarmouk wounded a civilian.
One person was killed and three people were wounded during an explosion at a café near Iskandariya. The bombing may have been retaliation for the capture of 21 men yesterday.
Three people were wounded on a highway near Saidiya when a roadside bomb exploded. Separately, two suspects were arrested.

Eight suspects were captured in Basra province. Police also found a car used in a rocket attack against a U.S. checkpoint at the Iranian border.
Weapons were seized south of Amara in Qalaat Saleh.
A woman suspected of recruiting female bombers was detained in Mussayab.
