At least 39 Iraqis were killed and 70 more were wounded in the latest violence. The uptick in attacks included significant bombings in Ramadi and Baquba, and a series of attacks in Baghdad. Details from a Karbala bombing are still sketchy, but it could turn out to be the bloodiest bombing of the day. No Coalition deaths were reported.
A car bomb at a checkpoint near Ramadi killed nine people. After the blast, police fired into the air to disperse the gathering crowd. At least seventeen more were wounded.
A suicide bomber wearing a police uniform killed six people outside a mosque in Baquba. The policemen stopped the bomber from entering the mosque. Twenty-two others were wounded. A motorcyclist was killed during a separate blast.
Twelve people were reported killed in Karbala when a sticky bomb planted on a minibus exploded. As many as eight were wounded. In what may be the same incident, an oil tanker exploded near Karbala in Ibrahimiya. The body of a policeman was separately found.
In Baghdad, a bomb targeting a police car killed three people, including two civilians, and wounded eight others in Suleikh. A bomb wounded a driver near Wathiq Sq. in Karrada. . Six people were wounded during a hand grenade attack in Mamoun. A bomb in Khadraa wounded the driver. A roadside blast killed a driver approaching a Sadr City checkpoint in Habbibiya; as many as five people were wounded.
A police officer and his son were killed in Tal Keef. Two more of the officer’s sons were wounded.
In Kirkuk, two children were killed when the grenade they discovered blew up. Gunmen killed an oil company employee yesterday.
No casualties were reported after a blast hit an MNF patrol in Hawija.
A bomb at an electricity office in Baiji left no casualties.
Ten suspects were arrested near Tal Afar in Abi Mariya. A weapons cache was discovered as well.
Eight suspects were detained in Basra.
Five I.E.D.s were defused in Missan province. The bombs were planted on a highway between Amara and Basra.
Eleven Katyusha rockets were discovered in Souk al-Shyoukh.
Two suspects were caught near Diwaniya.
Near Kut, a kidnapping and murder gang was captured.
A weapons cache was found in Suwayra.
Over 300 people demonstrated in Hilla, demanding that Syria halt the alleged stream of fighters coming in through its borders.
Mosul also suffered attacks, but no details were released. The Ninewa governor said that he would no longer tolerate Kurdish militias or secret service in Mosul.
