Sunday: 2 Foreign Contractors, 7 Iraqis Killed; 24 Iraqis Wounded

A British contractor apparently killed two foreign contractors today in Baghdad’s Green Zone. At least seven Iraqis were killed and 24 more were wounded across the country, including one in the contractor incident. Meanwhile, a member of parliament’s defense committee said that only 10,000 U.S. troops would remain in Iraq by the middle of next year.

Iraqi authorities arrested a British contractor accused of murdering two fellow contractors this morning in the Green Zone. One victim was also British, while the other was Australian. An Iraqi was also wounded in the shooting. A second Briton was an early suspect.

In Baghdad, two Kurdish security members were shot dead in Karrada. Gunmen separately killed two taxi drivers and stole their cabs in Amil and Hurriyah. A bomb attached to an Awakening Council member’s car in Doura was discovered and safely defused. Another bomb in Doura did explode and wound a policeman. Four were wounded in a Mansour area bomb blast.

In Mosul, an Iraqi was killed and three more were wounded in a blast at a downtown parking lot. A bomb wounded four more in the Farouq district. Two policemen were wounded when a bomb was detonated under the Khames Bridge. The body of an abducted man was discovered.

A bomb blast in Baquba wounded five policemen in the Tahreer district. Separately, three Naqshabandiya Army suspects were captured.

Gunmen in Buhriz killed one civilian and wounded another.

A blast wounded three people, including a woman, in Balad Ruz.

Turkey is flying about 40 Iraqis, injured in Friday’s bombing near Mosul, for medical treatment in Ankara.
