At least 28 Iraqis were killed and another 16 were wounded in the latest attacks. Also, a U.S. Marine was killed in a non-combat incident at a base in Anbar. Meanwhile, the U.S. and Iraq have apparently agreed on a security pact that was in limbo only yesterday; however, previous rumors over the deal’s acceptance proved false. Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari said that it would not be finalized before U.S. presidential elections.
Police interrogating a suspect learned the location of a mass grave containing ten bodies near Fallujah.
In Baghdad, a bomb that blasted a double-decker bus left two people dead and seven others wounded in Fadiliya; the bus was carrying employees of the Housing Ministry. Two people were killed and two others were wounded during a bomb blast in Maysaloon Square. A body was dumped in Ghadeer. Also, U.S. forces detained 15 suspects across the city, while Iraqi forces arrested another 15 suspects.
In Mosul, six family members were wounded during a roadside bomb blast in Dhibat. A sniper killed a man in Borsa, while gunmen in Sahin Al-Sham killed a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party. A roadside bomb killed a man and wounded another. Christian families were asked to return to Mosul, only a day after they were told to wait.
Three bombers killed themselves when the explosives they were planting in Mandali detonated prematurely. Another report said they died in clashes.
One body was found in Buhriz. Army forces killed two gunmen.
Police conducting a raid in Muqdadiya accidentally killed a civilian.
A roadside bomb killed a civilian contractor near his home in Khanaqin.
Three Awakening Council (Sahwa) members were arrested in Baquba on suspicion of working with al-Qaeda. Sahwa fighters are Sunnis who turned against al-Qaeda last year and began working with U.S. forces. This change in loyalty helped reduce the number of casualties in Iraq last year. At the beginning of October, the U.S. handed over authority of the Sahwa Councils to the Iraq government. Many Sahwa are worried that the Shi’ite led government will treat them unfairly, and some have even been arrested by a fearful Iraqi government.
Iraqi forces killed two suspects and arrested 51 other across Iraq.
Four oil smuggling suspects were detained north of Kirkuk. Two other suspects were captured south of the city.
Six suspects were picked up in Tal Aswad.
Three Iranian Revolutionary Guards were detained along with a guide after entering Iraq illegally near Kut. The guide may have been a local council member. The trio were found with guns, binoculars and ammunition. Police seized arms and munitions in a separate incident. Also, a military man was arrested while attempting to kill a civilian.
Security forces arrested 65 suspects across Ninewa province.
Ten suspects were detained across Missan province.
