At least 24 Iraqis were killed and 34 more were wounded during numerous but small attacks. No Coalition deaths were reported, but U.S. troops killed two relatives of a provincial governor in northern Iraq. Also, two foreign contractors were killed in Ninevah.
U.S. forces killed the 17-year-old son and a nephew of the governor of Salah ad Din province during a raid on a home in Baiji. Three others were wounded. The troops said they perceived hostile intent from the boys after storming the home. They also claimed that an al-Qaeda financier had been captured in the operation. The governor cut short a trip to Turkey upon hearing the news.
In Baghdad, a roadside bomb in Karrada killed one person and wounded three others; two other bombs in the area were defused. In Waziriya, a bomb targeting a police patrol wounded five people, including three civilians. A bomb planted on a car in Adhamiya killed its driver. A roadside bomb targeting U.S. troops in Qahira left no casualties. Also, one person was killed and two others were wounded during last night’s bombing in Adhamiya.
Later, a car bomb in central Baghdad killed one person and wounded seven others. Three dumped bodies were discovered. Four people were injured when a gunman threw a grenade at an alcohol seller on the Jadriya bridge.
Police killed a suicide bomber as he attempted to attack a Ramadi police station.
In Mosul, two people were killed in Karraj al-Shama during a roadside bomb attack. A man was killed in a drive-by shooting. Three people were wounded during a bombing in Zanjili. A policeman was killed in northern Mosul. Gunmen killed three people during a drive-by shooting. Also, gunmen broke into a home and killed a man.
Two bodies were fished out of a river in Suwayra. Many bodies are found caught in the irrigation system that supplies water to the area’s extensive farmland.
The body of a young woman bearing gunshot wounds was found in Basra. Also, two suspects were detained in a separate incident.
Three civilians were wounded during a roadside bombing yesterday in Makhmour.
A roadside bomb in Kirkuk wounded a policeman. Also, a hostage was freed.
Three policemen were killed during a bombing in Bani Saad.
In Madaen, a roadside bomb injured three people, including a little girl.
Two foreign contractors were killed during a suicide bombing at a U.S. checkpoint in Ninevah province.
U.S. forces detained 15 suspects across northern and central Iraq.
Thirteen suspects were captured in Muqdadiya.
Over 100 displaced families returned to their homes in the Khalis area.
A Shi’ite cleric in Tal Afar complained that military operations in Mosul not only are a failure, they have caused a deterioration in security in neighboring city. The operations were intended to rid the city of various Sunni militant groups including al-Qaeda.
Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) rebels released three German hostages that were kidnapped in Turkey. The group has been fighting for an autonomous homeland that would encompass parts of Turkey and Iraq.
