At least 46 Iraqis were killed and 61 were wounded in the latest violence. Also, 34 PKK rebels were killed when Turkish forces crossed the border into northern Iraq. Two American servicemembers were killed in separate incidents.
During a mine explosion in Salah ad Din province, one MND-North soldier was killed and three were wounded. One MNC-I soldier was killed and five more were wounded during operations near Baiji.
Turkey began flying sorties and delivering troops inside Iraq. At least 34 Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) rebels were reported killed in the raids. There are also reports of shelling in the area. At least one village near Dahuk was heavily bombed.
In Baghdad, simultaneous roadside bombs killed at least nine people and wounded 25 more outside a mosque in the Jisr Diyala area. In Qadissiya, a bomb targeting a commando patrol left three wounded. A mortar shell in Zayouna wounded two people. A bomb in Amiriya wounded one person. Six dumped bodies were recovered.
Also in the capital, the Sunni Accordance Front (IAF), a political party which holds 44 parliamentary seats, reported that Iraqi army troops raided their office in al-Adl. Three guards were wounded during the incident, which is not the first of its kind involving army troops. The IAF had been threatened in the past.
A landmine in Basra killed two electrical workers and five policemen.
In Iskandariya, a girl was killed during random gunfire.
A body bearing gunshot and torture marks was found in Mahaweel.
Iraqi soldiers reportedly shot two girls dead and beat up their mother in Karbala.
Shelling in Hib Hib killed three people and wounded 24 others.
In Kirkuk, a IED wounded two security guards.
A body was found in Hawija.
Gunmen killed a man and his two sons at their home in Zaghanya.
Two bodies were found near Baquba. Also, three gunmen were killed when they tried to kidnap two people.
During a firefight between gunmen and police in Hilla, a child and two adults were killed.
Echo Base in Diwaniya was once again attacked with Katyusha rockets; no casualties were reported. Two trucks carrying what is believed to be smuggled petrol products were seized. Also, police raided the home of an al-Sadr movement member and arrested him.
U.S. Forces detained 21 gunmen in central and northern Iraq, while Iraqi forces killed five suspects and arrested 48 more. Joint forces arrested another 11 in Iskandariya. In Tal Afar, two suspects were arrested.
