Fighting in Anbar Heats up, 226 Killed across Iraq

The controversial Iraqi politician who was behind the U.S. invasion of Iraq has died. Ahmad Chalabi was 71.

Turkish warplanes again bombed suspected Kurdistan Workers Party (P.K.K.) sites in northern Iraq.

At least 226 were killed and 37 were wounded in other violence:

A suicide bomber attacked Dibis, killing four people and wounding 15 more. At least three more security personnel were killed. This allowed three more militants to take over the town briefly before the three were killed. Another four militant deaths were reported.

In Baghdad, a bomb in Iskan killed one person and wounded five more. Two people were killed and eight were wounded when a bomb exploded in Za’afaraniya.

Mortars killed five Peshmerga at the Mosul Dam.

Two people were killed and nine were wounded in a last in Husseiniya.

A roadside bomb in the Hamrin Mountains killed a policeman.

In Mosul, militants executed a judge.

About 100 militants were killed during an operation in the 7th Kilometer region near Ramadi.

Operations in Albu Hayat left 40 militants dead.

Operations that included the cleansing of Madaiq left 33 militants dead.

Twelve militants were killed in Husayba.

In Sinjar, 10 militants were killed in air strikes. Security forces killed four suicide bombers.
