79 Killed, 112 Wounded As Iraq Militants Attack Religious College

Militants staged successful attacks deep into the Shi’ite south today and at a Shi’ite religious university in Baghdad. The army also pounded locations in Anbar province. At least 79 people were killed and 112 more were wounded.

In Anbar:

In Ramadi, shelling left eight dead and 11 wounded. Gunmen killed three soldiers and wounded five more at a checkpoint. Security forces killed a suicide bomber. Seven militants were killed in a security operation. Military forces killed two snipers. Ten militants were killed in a separate operation.

Four people were killed and 15 more were wounded during artillery fire in Garma.

In Falluja, shelling left one dead and four wounded.

Gunmen killed one soldier and wounded another in Abu Ghraib.

A policeman was shot dead in Hit.

In Amiriyat al-Falluja, a railroad bridge was blown up.

In Baghdad, a suicide bomber attacked the front gate of a religious college in Ur, while three militants stormed the back gate. Together they killed four policemen and a teacher, and they also wounded 18 people before being killed themselves.

Two bombs exploded on a commercial street in Samawa, killing seven people and wounded at least 22 more.

Three people were killed and 12 more were wounded in a blast in Iskandariya.

A car bomb killed four civilians and wounded five more in Mussayab.

In Saidiya, a sticky bomb killed a lieutenant and wounded another soldier.

Gunmen killed two policemen and wounded a civilian in Mosul. A third policeman was killed separately. Security forces killed three bombers.

A bomb in Udhaim killed one soldier and wounded another.

Security forces killed a suicide bomber in Abu Saida.

One soldier was killed and five more were wounded in a blast and subsequent clashing in Jurf al-Sakhar. Five militants were killed in these or separate clashes.

In Baquba, a roadside bomb targeting a convoy carrying the vice chairman of the provincial council wounded three bodyguards when it exploded.

The body of a man was found in the Diyala River near Baquba.

A policeman was shot dead in Meshahda.

In Taji, a civilian was shot dead.

A bomb targeting a garbage truck in Tikrit wounded eight people. Two merchants were kidnapped.
