Baghdad Bombed Again, Clashes For Anbar; 46 Killed, 99 Wounded

As the head of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, visited Iraq, Baghdad erupted in series of blasts that targeted civilians. Fighting continued in Anbar province, while the usual violence occurred elsewhere. Overall, at least 46 people were killed and 99 more were wounded.

In Baghdad, 11 people were killed and 28 more were wounded in a commercial part of the Shabb neighborhood. An evening car bomb killed five people and wounded 14 more in Bab al-Muadham. Three people were killed and 13 more were wounded in Shoala. A car bomb killed one and wounded nine in Adhamiya. Four people were killed and 12 more were wounded in a blast in Hurriya.

Three policemen were killed and four more were wounded during an attack on a checkpoint in Madaen.

Gunmen attacked a Tikrit checkpoint where they killed one policeman and wounded three more.

Gunmen in Buhriz killed a policeman and wounded three more.

A soldier was killed in a drive-by shooting in Kirkuk.

Six construction workers were wounded in Qayara, when a bomb exploded at an oilfield.

A blast in Baquba wounded a policeman and a civilian.

In Mosul, an I.E.D. wounded three policemen.

A bomb wounded two soldiers in Mussayab.

A number of operations were conducted in the greater Ramadi area. Three insurgents were killed.

Shelling continued in the Falluja area; four civilians were killed. The mayor was kidnapped but later released when he promised to quit his post.

Three militants were killed during an operation in Rutba.

Six militants were killed in Ersan.
