Clashes, Bombs, Shootings in Iraq: 96 Killed, 98 Wounded

At least 96 people were killed across Iraq today. One of them was an Egyptian civilian. It is likely that some of the militants killed in Anbar province today were also foreign nationals. Another 98 people were wounded, more than half of them in a bombing in Kirkuk.

In Ramadi, 29 militants were killed in an airstrike. Overnight, four civilians were killed and 14 more were wounded, according to hospital authorities. Tribesmen killed another eight militants, including three snipers. A militant leader was killed. The city is partially under control of Sunni tribesmen working with police against Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) militants.

Falluja has yet to see any real military activity, but clashes did occur about 12 miles outside the city. The city is said to be completely under the control of ISIS militants, but there also are reports that the militants may be leaving the city. One leader was reported killed.

A suicide bomber attacked a police station in Kirkuk, where he killed five people and wounded at least 55 more.

In Baghdad, a bomb killed one Sahwa member and wounded four more in Jisr Diyala. Gunmen killed twelve people at a brothel. An Egyptian civilian was gunned down. Two gunmen were killed in a failed attack. Two children were freed from their kidnappers.

In Samarra, a bomb wounded four civilians. Eight policemen were shot dead, while two more were wounded at a checkpoint.

In Mosul, a bomb killed two soldiers and a civilian. A prison guard was shot dead. Four policemen were wounded in a grenade attack.

A blast at a Sahwa member’s home in Jurf al-Sakhar killed four bystanders, including a child. An I.E.D. injured two policemen.

Gunmen killed three policemen and wounded three more in Imam Weis.

In Baquba, a Sahwa member was shot dead. In two more small arms attacks, a government worker and a farmer were killed.

Two policemen were killed and four others were wounded during an attack in Jalawla.

Police at a customs office in Tikrit killed two suicide bombers.

In Shirqat, gunmen killed one soldier and wounded three more.

A roadside bomb killed one soldier and wounded another in Madaen.

An al-Qaeda leader was killed in al-Rud.

A gunman was killed in Latifiya.

Police killed a suicide bomber in Mussayab.

Two policemen were wounded in a shooting in Abu Saida.
