Behind the Benghazi Cover-Up
On Sept. 11, scores of men with automatic weapons and RPGs launched a night assault on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, killed Ambassador Chris Stevens, and set the building ablaze. Using mortars, they launched a collateral attack on a safe house, killing two more Americans, as other U.S. agents fled to the airport.
On Sept. 14, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the attack came out of a spontaneous protest caused by an anti-Muslim video on YouTube.
On Sept. 16, U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice told the entire nation the attack had not been premeditated or preplanned but emanated from a spontaneous protest of the nasty video.
On Sept. 25, Obama at the United Nations mentioned the video six times.
But when they were pushing this tale, what did the White House actually know?
For we have now learned that the assault was observed in near real time by the State Department’s Charlene Lamb, who was in contact with the security section at the Benghazi compound.
The next day, Sept. 12, Fox News and Eli Lake of The Daily Beast reported that U.S. intelligence had concluded it was terrorism. Within 24 hours of the attack, U.S. intelligence had identified some of the terrorists as members of an al-Qaeda affiliate.
Thus either administration higher-ups were ignorant for more than a week of what their own agents knew, and are thus manifestly incompetent, or they colluded in a cover-up and orchestrated deception.
As the facts are revealed, the weight of evidence tilts toward the latter conclusion.
Why? Because we now know there never was any protest at the Benghazi compound — not against an anti-Muslim video or anything else.
And if there was no protest, who sent Carney out to blame the attack on the protest? And if there was no protest, who programmed Rice and put her on five separate Sunday talk shows to attribute the massacre to a protest that never happened?
If real-time intelligence and U.S. agents at the scene knew it was premeditated, preplanned terrorism by Sept. 12, who told Rice to deny specifically on Sept. 16 that the attack was premeditated or preplanned?
Indeed, why was Rice sent out at all? She is not in the chain of command. Why she accepted the assignment is obvious. She wants to be Hillary Clinton’s successor as secretary of state. But who put her up to this? Who pushed her out front to mislead us?
The CIA’s David Petraeus or Director of National Intelligence James Clapper should have been sent out to say what we knew, five days after the massacre. As Chris Stevens reported to the secretary of state and President Obama, why was Hillary or National Security Adviser Tom Donilon not sent out to explain what had happened to Stevens and the others?
Looking back, Carney and Rice appear to have been used by their superiors.
Carney would never have gone out to speculate on his own about what happened in Benghazi. His line on Sept. 14 had to have been fed to him by the White House chief of staff, Donilon, Obama, or all of them.
As for Rice, someone contacted those five TV networks to put her on. And the party line she delivered — the opposite of the truth — had to have been fed to her, almost word for word by Donilon or the chief of staff.
Could Donilon or Hillary have been in the dark about what Rice was going to say? Could they have still been in the dark about what had happened five days before in Benghazi, when Hillary’s own deputy Charlene Lamb had followed the terrorist attack in near real time?
Hillary and the entire Obama national security team are in that famous photo with Obama watching Seal Team Six in Abbottabad when Osama bin Laden was taken down.
Was the National Security Council alerted by Lamb when she was observing the attack in near real time? Did the NSC also observe?
Was the president told by the NSC that we were getting real-time intel and video from Benghazi, and would he like to see?
There is an even more fundamental question:
Why did the White House persist with the phony story of a protest against a video being the cause of Ambassador Stevens’ death, when they had to know there was no protest?
The most plausible explanation is that the truth — we were being hit with the worst terror attack since 9/11 in a city we saved — would have exposed Obama’s boasting about his Libya triumph and al-Qaeda being “on the run” and “on the path to defeat” as absurd propaganda.
Al-Qaeda is now in Libya, Mali, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, and Pakistan.
And the epidemic of anti-American riots across the Muslim world, with Arab Spring elections bringing to power Islamist regimes, testify to the real truth. After four years of Obama, it is America that is on the run in the Middle East.
But we can’t let folks find that out until after Nov. 6.
Hence the Benghazi cover-up.

As cover-ups go this makes Watergate look like a penny ante crap shoot on the steps leading to the casino at Monte Carlo. There are deaths involved and national security. The principals are public officials at the highest level of the nations foreign policy establishment, not small time political operatives. It is not a bloodless petty burglary. It is organized terrorism.
However, do not expect the Washington Post, the New York Times or the networks to pitch tents outside the White House wll the while howling for blood and to then run 3 dozen plus stories per daily issue in the manner they did to bring down the anti-Communist Nixon. You see the MSM is objective. It feeds us news fearlessly without regard to either party or race.

Thanks heavens Assange exposed some of the dirty tricks that the U.S. engages in. If the real truth about the U.S. was exposed to the world the horror that would be felt by citizens of the world would be profound.
The U.S. is the Evil Empire incarnate. It is a threat to the whole world.

Not much to add to the above comments except many Republicans only complain the Obama didn't do enough in Libya; he led from behind in their accusations. Now that Bush threw the mideast into turmoil, following on Clinton and Albrights smaller assaults and sanctions, and continued by Obama, we're paying the consequences but history never exists for politicians, including Buchanan, before the last presidential election.

Toning down on rhetoric would de loads of good.
> It is not a bloodless petty burglary.
No it is not. Calling Nixon's night action "petty burglary" is, however, totally wrong. Nixon should have been hauled over the coals for that one, then thrown in the clink. Yes we have become accustomed to similar actions very well traced to Prominent People In Armani, generally Republican who are then let go with a slap on the wrist. Doesn't make it acceptable.
> It is organized terrorism.
Yeah, but it's not organized terrorism by the Obama Administration.
This is just "spin". Older than Rome. If it was BushCo wot done it, nobody would even talk about it.
> do not expect the Washington Post… [other neocon papers all friendly to BushCo]
Oh no, the retarded spectre of the vast left-wing conspiracy. I laugh. Is Carl Rove back?

As intelligent as Pat Buchanan may be, it is always important to remember that he is a Republican, first and foremost, and that he did carry water for George W. Bush even in 2004 when it became apparent that Iraq (now that's a big one) was invaded on lies far bigger than something about a video.
That said, I'd like to mention in passing that I heard the Brits had stored weapons at the US Embassy compound in Libya. Did anyone hear about that? That when they left Libya, there was some concern about their falling into the wrong hands. Well, if you store stuff like that and word gets out, you'd better be able to defend it. Pardon me if I am just repeating a rumor, but you don't even have to be evil multinational al Qaeda to want to seize weapons that are there for the taking. What if that was the primary motivation? What if some of the cover-up is a concealment of these types of arrangements between nations. It would apply in spades to Afghanistan, which might explain how slowly a leave-taking can wind down, what with all the RPG's 'n' stuff lying around for the taking once all that Operation Enduring Freedom winds down (not to speak of the Coalition of the Willing in Iraq).

Clearly the political situation in Libya is far from stable; with anti-US elements being able to whip up a relatively sophisticated assault on a US embassy it's pretty safe to say it's still game on. And, to do so they'd have to have the cooperation of the local militias, or at least have them conveniently look the other way. Regardless, given that Libya is still a war zone and given that there were weapons rumored to be stored in the compound- as noted by "musings" above, not even US weapons- that stripped the embassy of any diplomatic protection it might have had and slapped a big fat bullseye on it as a de facto military target. Military target in a war zone =/= terrorism: it equals war, and we're in one in Libya and that's just how it goes. As an American, I am saddened by the deaths of those Americans in the compound and elsewhere, but the bigger picture shows me that they are just more victims of a failed US foreign policy. Benghazi is just where one of our chickens came home to roost- where will the next one show up?

You got that right, Sam. NATO – or, should I say, ZATO – is ultimately responsible for the terrorist act that resulted in the deaths of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans just a few weeks ago. Had ZATO not intervened in the Libyan crisis and left Ghaddafi in power, these four Americans would've still been alive today.
France and the UK have a lot to answer for here. These two nations led the intervention; had mercenaries, as well as their own special ops people operating right along with the Salafists;and other extremists in overthrowing Ghaddafi, who was then brutally beaten and sodomized by these thugs; then, shot dead by a FRENCHMAN.
Therefore, had Libya been left alone to handle its own crisis, without any interference whatsoever, Ghaddafi would still be alive and in power; and, most of all, there would NEVER have been an attack like the one that was launched on October 12; and, Ambassador Stevens and his three colleagues would still be alive and well. Thanks, Sam, for pointing this out.

Well Pat, I agree, but it may be more accurate to look for Ghaddaffi's Greens behind it, as suggested elsewhere, rather than "al-Qaeda," which has become just a useful Halloween term.

I've been thinking along the same lines. Khaddafi ruled Libya for what – 30 years? Stands to reason that, like Saddam, he had hundreds of thousands of supporters. No one likes to have their country bombed to smithereens and the only government they have ever known destroyed by unauthorized outside forces. Imagine what would happen if an American president was murdered like a dog in the street the way Khaddafi was. Those loyal to him would be looking for some payback.
