Bombers and Gunmen Kill 62, Wound 54 Across Iraq

At least 62 people were killed, including a Saudi Arabian, and 54 more were wounded in the latest round of violence. Few casualties were reported in Anbar province today. The deadliest attacks took place, instead, north of Baghdad.

The United Nations warned that the fighting in Anbar province could provoke a humanitarian crisis. As many as 13,000 families have already fled Falluja ahead of possible military action. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki intimated a possible pardon for militants if they peacefully give up the city. Meanwhile, markets reopened, and some traffic police were back on the beat despite some clashes. Clashes continued in Ramadi; a bomb wounded a police commander.

An al-Qaeda leader and four companions were killed during clashes in Jazira.

A military helicopter crashed in Anbar province, killing four soldiers.

In Diyala, 12 soldiers were killed and seven more were wounded in an attack.

In Shirqat, a policeman and four gunmen were injured during clashes. Gunmen killed eight students of an intermediate school. Gunmen also attacked a home where they killed two children and wounded their father.

In Mosul, a car bomb left one policeman dead and 16 others wounded. Gunmen killed a former army officer and his wife during a home invasion. A bomb killed three people, including a civilian. Gunmen killed an employee of the electricity department. Gunmen killed a soldier and wounded a second one. Gunmen killed a civilian.

In Adhaim, gunmen killed three security personnel and wounded four more at a joint checkpoint. A bomb killed a policeman and wounded three more.

Four Sahwa members were killed and another was wounded during a roadside bombing in Siniya.

A sticky bomb in Salah ad Din province killed three policemen and wounded a policeman. Several students were also wounded.

Three gunmen were killed and two policemen were wounded during clashes that erupted when the policemen discovered the gunmen planting bombs around electrical towers in Taji.

A suicide bomber targeting police in Tal Afar wounded four people, including two civilians.

Gunmen killed a farmer and wounded his son in Mansouriya.

A roadside bomb killed a policeman in Samarra. A second bomb wounded a civilian.

An ISIL leader and a companion were killed during a security operation in Baquba.

In Baghdad, security forces killed a gunman possibly of Saudi Arabian origin.

A sticky bomb killed a lieutenant in Yathrib.

Gunmen killed a man in Ishaqi.

An I.E.D. in Mussayab wounded four people.
