Westernized Youth a Target for Iraq’s “Moral Police”

Activists say that a youth movement characterized by black clothing and unconventional hairstyles is the latest target of Iraq’s "moral police." At least 10 Iraqis were killed and 18 more were wounded in other attacks.

Just days after a human rights group reported that homosexual Iraqis are being targeting for torture and death, activists are saying the same for the country’s "emo" subculture. According to Hana al-Bayaty of the Brussels Tribunal, as many as 100 young people may have been killed so far. It is unclear if any of the deaths were reported elsewhere or if the two victims groups share some of the casualties.

Near Baiji, security forces attempted to capture several people suspected of participating in the massacre in Haditha last week. Four suspects were killed and 11 more were wounded.

One person was killed and four more were wounded during a bombing in Falluja.

A young man’s body was found in Kirkuk, where authorities say violence is on the decline.

In nearby Riyadh, a bomb at a home killed two people and wounded two others.>  Gunmen wounded one Sahwa member.

A policeman was shot to death in Mosul. Gunmen killed a Turkmen man working as a guard.

No casualties were reported after gunmen took a shot at a provincial council member in Karbala.
