Saturday: 3 US Soldiers, 2 Iraqis Killed; 6 Iraqis Wounded

Three U.S. soldiers were killed in two separate events. Iraqi soldiers allegedly staged one of the attacks. The other was also hostile. At least two Iraqis were killed six others were wounded as well, almost all in Baghdad. Also, the Syrian premier is in Iraq in an attempt to improve ties, and the bid received a positive reception from the Iraqi parliament.

Two U.S. soldiers were killed and a third one was wounded when two Iraqi soldiers opened fire on them during training exercises in Mosul. One Iraqi may have been killed or arrested along with his partner, according to an unconfirmed report. Separately, another U.S. soldier was killed during combat operations in central Iraq.

In Baghdad, a roadside bomb planted in the Bayaa district killed a policeman and wounded four people, including a civilian. Another bomb, this one in Adhamiya, wounded two people, including a policeman.

A National Iraqi Alliance lawmaker accused top officials of orchestrating the escape of a dozen suspected Islamic State of Iraq detainees from a Basra jail yesterday. While another lawmaker from al-Ahrar bloc suggested that the jailbreak is evidence of U.S. control over the prime minister’s office and of Iraqi security forces.
