At least 41 people were killed or found dead and 56 more were wounded during the latest attacks, which included a serious bombing in Sadr City. No Coalition deaths were reported, but two foreign security contractors were injured during a bombing. Also, a British journalist held in Basra is said to be in good heath and awaiting release.
In Baghdad, seven people were killed and 36 were wounded during a car bombing in the Sadr City suburb. A roadside bomb near Shabb Stadium injured three people. Also, three dumped bodies and two decomposing corpses were recovered.
Nine people were shot dead in Ouja, the hometown of Saddam Hussein. Gunmen entered the home of a construction worker and killed his family, including his wife and children.
A former major general was gunned down in Samarra.
An Awakening Council member was killed during a drive-by shooting in Hawija.
The police chief and three bodyguards were injured during an attack on their convoy in Baaj.
Clashes followed a roadside bombing in Basra, leaving two Iraqi soldiers injured. The fighting took place between Iraqi security forces and a Shi’ite cult, the Ahmed al-Yamani group, which staged a deadly battle last month. Also, a British journalist kidnapped on Tuesday is in good health according to sources in the Office of the Martyr al-Sadr; they are negotiating with kidnappers for the release of the CBS newsman.
Three al-Yamani followers were arrested in Karbala.
Gunmen attacked a convoy belonging to the head Rapid Reaction Forces of Wassit Province and injured him.
Two women and six Awakening Council members were killed during a shootout near Tikrit in the village of Sheikh Abdullah.
Seven suspects were killed and 16 more were detained during security operations across central and northern Baghdad.
A female al-Qaeda suspect was arrested in al-Jihad.
Two men were killed as they were building an explosive device in Kan’ous, near Shurqat.
Seven policemen were injured during a combined IED and armed attack in Jalawla.
Gunmen bombed a school near Khan Bani Saad.
In Baquba, gunmen killed the head of Iraq Hamas Brigade.
Three people were abducted from a fake checkpoint in Balad Ruz.
In Muqdadiyah, three children were injured during a roadside bomb explosion.
Two suspects were arrested in Kut.
In Kirkuk, eleven suspects were discovered.
Also, 69 suspected al-Yamani followers were released due to lack of evidence against them.
