Once again, U.S. security contractors have fired upon civilians in Iraq, this time injuring two family members in Baghdad. Overall, 80 Iraqis were killed and 37 more were wounded. Among the dead were 22 unidentified people who were buried in Kirkuk. Also one U.S. soldier was killed today in Baghdad.
One U.S. soldier was killed and five more were wounded in an EFP attack in Baghdad that also left two Iraqis dead and two more Iraqis wounded. The attack took place near the Green Zone in the Salhiya neighborhood. Also, a group that is fighting al-Qaeda forces alongside Coalition troops accused the U.S. military of killing members of his group during clashes.
In Baghdad, five dumped bodies were found. Two people were injured when guards from a U.S. security company opened fire on a family in an eastern district. Eight people were wounded during a bombing in al-Binouk. Also, the Association of Muslim Scholars reported that guards from the government-run Endowments Department took over their offices and that their radio channel was shut down.
Local authorities in Kirkuk reported burying 22 unidentified bodies, four of them belonging to women.
A suicide bomber killed two people and wounded six others during a meeting attended by Sunni Arab tribal sheikhs in Iskandariya.
Iraqi security forces and suspected al-Qaeda members clashed in Khalis, leaving five people dead and six more injured.
Two men were gunned down in Kut.
One person was killed and three others were injured during a mortar attack in Hibhib.
A civilian was kidnapped near Hawija.
A body was found in Bidawa.
A roadside bomb damaged a U.S. vehicle in al-Ishaqi, but the number of casualties, if any, is unknown.
Two people were killed and ten more were wounded during a suicide attack on the home of a local tribal chief north of Hilla in Mulwailha.
In Mosul, two civilians were gunned down in a drive-by shooting.
British troops launched mortars after coming under a Katyusha rocket attack in Basra. No casualties were reported either at the base or on a home that sustained damage from the shelling.
U.S. forces killed 25 suspects near Tarmiya and detained 21 more. Iraqi security forces killed 12 suspects in Baghdad. In Diyala, 30 suspects were detained. Five members of the al-Sadr movement were arrested in Karbala; another 48 were detained later. In Qadisiyah province, seven policemen, who were also Sadrists, were detained as well. Meanwhile, U.S. forces arrested an al-Qaeda suspect in Baghdad.
