Chris has been involved with the Balkans and Southeast Europe in general since 1997 and has covered various issues of peace and security there for Antiwar.com, often reporting from volatile, politically fluid areas in the process.

Chris is the author or co-author of numerous books, including The Coming Balkan Caliphate: The Threat of Radical Islam to Europe and the West (Praeger Security International, 2007), a major study of the role foreign-funded Islamist groups are playing in Balkan societies today. In addition to guidebooks for travel publisher Lonely Planet on Greece, Bulgaria, and the Western Balkans, Chris has written a travelogue, Hidden Macedonia (Haus Publishing, London, 2007), and a textbook, Culture and Customs of Serbia and Montenegro (Greenwood, 2009).

In his career as a freelance writer, Chris has written for many global media bodies, including United Press International, the Jane's Group, the Economist Intelligence Unit, and various newspapers and magazines.
