Civilians Flee Renewed Fighting in Mosul; 155 Killed in Iraq

Civilians escaping the fighting in the western Mosul area say that they have seen Islamic State militants fleeing areas that are being recaptured. However, security forces are currently only at the outskirts of town. The militants may be heading to supplement their forces in the central districts, which will be much easier to defend.

At least 155 were killed and 28 more were wounded in the latest violence:

In Mosul, militants executed seven family members, including a six-year-old, for using a cell phone. Drones killed two small children and wounded three more in Karaj district; killed seven adults in Baya al-Mobasher, al-Nour, and Ninawa al-Sharqiya; wounded three in Sukkar; and, wounded three more, including a militiaman at Mosul University. Seventeen militants were killed in airstrikes on Jawsaq. A drone killed three militants in Najjar.

In Baghdad, a bomb killed seven people and wounded 12 more in Ameriya.

According to reports, militants beheaded Iraqi army colonel Abu Bakr Abbas Yassin Al-Darraji Al-Samarra’i and another officer.

A sniper killed a militiaman in Tuz Khormato.

An I.E.D. in Taji wounded four people.

In Muqdadiya, a tribal leader and two bodyguards were wounded in blast.

Ninety militants were killed in clashes in the Albu Saif region on Monday.

Nine militants were killed in a failed attack on Ein al-Hussan.

A drone killed three militants in Hawija.

In the Hamrin Basin, an airstrike killed three militants, including an official.

Two militants were killed in Saba al-Dujail.

In Badush, a senior executioner was killed.

Security forces killed a suicide bomber in Ishaqi.
